Manslaughter charge laid after fatal opioid overdose in Kingsville

A Kingsville man is facing charges in relation to the death of an individual as a result of an opioid overdose.

Essex County OPP said they were called to a residence in Kingsville on March 20 due to an unresponsive individual.

The 35-year-old Kingsville resident was taken to hospital, where they died.

Investigation determined the individual had fatally overdosed on opioids.

On March 23, the Essex County OPP Crime Unit made an arrest in connection with the death.

Douglas Darcy Jarvis, 54, of Kingsville, has been charged with manslaughter and trafficking a controlled substance.

The accused has been scheduled for court appearance in Windsor.

OPP said there have been 30 cases in Ontario from 2018 to 2022 when provincial police have laid a charge of manslaughter or criminal negligence causing death in relation to a deadly overdose.
